The Gaffer: Rugby is a single-player rugby management game. You manage a men’s or a women’s team in a world of clubs, players and competitions that is generated for each new game, so every career is different. All names are fictional.
Rugby league and rugby union are both in the one game: league in 13s and 9s, union in 15s and 7s. The 9s and 7s are played as tournaments with groups and knockouts.
- Pick the squad and the team for every match, and name a captain
- Set the tactics from clear settings. How well a tactic works depends on the players you have
- Run the weekly training schedule and see how players grow over the seasons
- Buy, sell and loan players. Negotiate contracts with wages, bonuses and release clauses
- Keep the club’s finances in order with a budget, income and expenses
- Send scouts to find players. Reports show some of what a player can do and hide the rest
- Play leagues over many seasons with promotion and relegation. Men’s and women’s teams play alongside each other
- Watch matches as a live top-down view with an event feed and statistics, or skip to the result
- Make substitutions during a match
- Choose one of four colour themes, including a colour-blind theme and a high contrast theme
- Move a save to another device with an exported file
